Project: Goldsmiths College,
New Cross, London

City Basements are currently undertaking the design and construction of a 1850 square metre basement at Goldsmiths College

The project involves the construction of a single level waterproof basement which will house new lecture theatres and associated services. The basement's perimeter wall will be constructed using contiguous piles with a capping beam and waterproof internal liner wall of 150mm thick reinforced concrete.

The basement sits on a raft and will include 2 no. lift shafts (one for goods and one for personnel) which are again constructed as waterproof structures. To achieve a Grade 3 basement structure we are using a concrete waterproof additive devised by Triton which is added to the concrete at batching stage.

Because of the usage of the building, the client (Goldsmith College) have requested a secondary waterproof membrane to be installed internally which City Basements and Triton have design/developed comprising cavity wall drain to both perimeter walls and basement slab. This acts as a belt and braces membrane which offers a 12 year warranty.
