Project: Private Residence
in Chiltern Hills
This project involved the majority of this unique architecturally designed country residence to be sunk in to the ground to minimise the impact on the landscape in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The single-story building approached through mature beech woods lies at the head of a gently sloping south-facing valley, in open pasture. The basement and groundworks package created the foot print for building to be constructed around a covered central courtyard. The swimming pool was designed with a concealed rising floor to create an ornamental reflecting pool a few inches deep or so it can be made flush with the courtyard so it disappears altogether.
High thermal mass concrete was utilized throughout the construction to contribute towards a highly energy-efficient build. Great care was taken throughout the project to sustain the immediate environment.
