European Polocrosse Championship
City Basements Sponsor winning Polocrosse Team in European Championship
Over the weekend of 12 – 13th July 2008, Kent Target Polocrosse Club hosted the inaugural European Polocrosse Challenge Tournament in the picturesque surroundings of Risebridge Farm, Goudhurst, Kent.
In a repeat of the 2007 World Cup Final, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Norway and the UK were competing for the title.
After the first round of matches Ireland (sponsored by City Basements) drew with Holland. The game was hard fought, but Ireland maintained their lead to win 11-7, joining France, who beat Norway and the UK who beat Germany, to play off for the championship.
Ireland’s next match against France was again very close. France were playing on the Henson breed of horse, although they were very robust they did not have the pace of the Irish ponies. Ireland won the match 13-9.
Ireland’s final game was against the UK. A large crowd had gathered, with a large contingent of Irish supporters who had travelled to watch the event. The first couple of Chukkas were very close with scores level at 2-2. Ireland made a break in the third chukka to comfortably beat the UK 15-4 to win the Championship.
Paul Scott of Ireland received the award of Best No.3.
